One more year, the new vintage of A Coroa 100% Godello is the first of the three ranges that we elaborate to be on the market and, as usual, it is expected to be rated as excellent.
After the great international sales success of the 2018 and 2019 vintages, around 85,000 bottles will be launched onto the market this year.
As for the quality of the range, it is anticipated to be excellent, due to the great state of the grapes collected during the harvest as well as two fundamental factors: a controlled production – unique in the region of Valdeorras- and an integrated production. Both processes are the foundation of the firm commitment to a modern production model under the quality seal of Galicia Calidade, and characterized to be sustainable and environmentally friendly.
>>> VINEYARDS
A Coroa Godello 2020 is elaborated with the most exclusive selection of grape from five plots, owned by A Coroa and selected among the best in the region. A combination of good south-southwest facing land with a noticeable slope, a gradient approximately 15% and a special microclimate ideal for ripening.
The diversity of plots, along with special microclimates and the different types of soil lead to the optimal maturation of the grapes at different times, sought by the winery. Thus, each plot is harvested and vinified separately, with the aim of obtaining the maximum expression and personality of the variety linked to its environment.
The goal is to achieve, through a great control of the raw material and a rational and precise winemaking process, fully varietal wines that express with purity the characteristics of the “terroir”.
>>> 2020 HARVEST
This viticultural season was marked by an early growth cycle, caused by a mild winter with high temperatures. A rainy Spring left enough water reserves for the plant, with ideal conditions of high temperatures and dry weather during flowering – a critical period for the crop – and a Summer of high temperatures helped us fight diseases without the need for treatment.
Therefore, the first bunches of godello grapes arrived at the winery on August 26 and the quantity of Godello grapes ripened was 107,175 kg.
In summary, a good sanitary year along with favorable weather conditions to fight diseases, and always within the integrated production framework, have reduce by 20% the application of phytosanitary compared to last season, with the result of a very natural and healthy grape, of exceptional quality and very tasty.
>>> TASTING NOTES
A Coroa Godello 2020 presents a bright straw color, with marked green hues on a thin layer that remind us of harmonic combinations of green leafy flowers and shows its careful preparation. Crystal brightness and with an extensive care.
With great transparence of aromas and remarkable intensity, it subtly shows spicy notes that melt with aromas of wild white herbs, citrus notes, tropical fruits, ripe stone fruit and light aniseed tone that reminds one of fennel. It has a marked vegetal touch on the nose, typical of the godello, and outstandingly clean.
Fresh in the mouth, with less marked acidity and increasing softness and unctuous smoothness. It is a long wine, marked by its slight bitterness, typical of the great godellos. Subtle retronasal aroma with remarkable touch of white flowers.
A Coroa Godello 2020 stands out for its great intensity of aromas, savory, with a lingering aftertaste and great balance in the mouth.

From A Coroa we want to show our firm conviction of participating in international contests of abundant competition and great exigency where the criterion and the autonomy of the critics are beyond doubt.
