A Coroa vineyards are made up of nine plots, meticulously selected among the best in Valdeorras, where a good south-southwest orientation is combined with a studied microclimate that guarantees the optimal maturation of the Godello variety.
Currently the winery owns an extension of 23 hectares (18.5 in production).
Most of the vineyards are raised in espalier at different street widths (2.20 m street / 1.80 m between plants, mostly). These are pruned with double Royat cord, with low production of 3,000 vines/ha, and in differentiated soil conditions, orientation, altitude and microclimates.
The careful selection of soils, the low production in our plots and the controlled production techniques applied to the vineyard – being the only winery working with the Godello variety that uses this production system worldwide – are a distinctive feature of our elaborations that endow A Coroa wines of great exclusivity and the highest quality.
Plots
With the firm conviction of offering the highest quality with careful careful consideration of the environment and regeneration of the land, the cultivation model in all plots of A Coroa is ruled by low production and controlled production – restricting the maximum output per hectare, to achieve the highest quality each year-.
The diversity of plots, along with special microclimates, different types of soil and integrated production, lead to the optimal maturation of the grapes at different times, sought by the winery. Thus, each plot is harvested and vinified separately, with the aim of obtaining the maximum expression and personality of the variety linked to its environment.
The goal is to achieve, through a great control of the raw material and a rational and precise wine-making process, fully varietal wines that express with purity the characteristics of the “terroir”.
Integrated Production:
In A Coroa we have chosen this type of agriculture and way of food production, similar to organic agriculture, which bases its origin on biological or integrated control, seeking environmental sustaina-bility.
The application of this model is defined as the integration of a set of techniques and actions on crops, so as to minimize or eliminate the use of chemical and phytosanitary substances to control pests or diseases. Thus, we can offer natural wines with no additives.
Controlled Production:
In 2010 A Coroa becomes the first and only winery of the Valdeorras Designation of Origin in making a wine under the quality parameters established by the Regulatory Council for this type of production.
The new regulation establishes that in its controlled production vines, the maximum output will be of 8,000 Kg / ha for the Godello variety, obtaining thus lower quantity but higher quality yields.
This certification is unique in a wine of the Valdeorras Designation of Origin.
