THE GREAT QUALITY OF THE GRAPE DETERMINES THE 2020 HARVEST IN ADEGA A COROA

>>> Approximately 107,000 kilograms of godello and around 1,800 kilograms of garnacha are the numbers for a harvest year of exceptional quality grapes

This viticultural season was marked by an early growth cycle, caused by a mild winter with high temperatures. Therefore, the first bunches of godello grapes arrived at the winery on August 26.

The conditions of this annual cycle were very favorable for the optimal development of the vine. Despite of this, some plots were affected by late frosts that caused a decline of production, such as in O Pedredo, where the harvest was reduced by 35%.

As for the rest of the season, a rainy Spring left enough water reserves for the plant, with ideal conditions of high temperatures and dry weather during flowering, a critical period for the crop.

Also, a Summer of high temperatures helped us fight diseases without the need for treatment.

Above all, it stands out the excellent harvest obtained from our most emblematic vineyard “VALDEAUGAS”, from which we make our ‘200 Cestos’ wine. The location and high altitude of the plot, with low daytime temperatures and cool nights, provided us with a great quantity of grapes of exceptional quality.

In summary, a good sanitary year along with favorable weather conditions to fight diseases, and always within the integrated production framework, have reduce by 20% the application of phytosanitary compared to last season, with the result of a very natural and healthy grape, of exceptional quality and very tasty

The quantitative results of the 2020 Harvest are listed below:

Kg of Godello grapes harvested: 107,175 kg

Kg of Garnacha grapes harvested: 1,800 kg (approx.)

With these figures, the approximate volumes of wine are:

Godello: 98,000 bottles

Centenary Garnacha – Ladeira Vella: 1,400 bottles

The favorable weather conditions for the vineyard all year round, along with a system of specific tasks and treatments according to the climate and characteristics of each plot, have managed to minimize the use of phytosanitaries in 2020 and, consequently, obtain a very natural grape totally free of external agents.

All in all, there has been a better ripening of the fruit that has led to a high quality grape, which in turn, will be reflected in the future elaborations of the 2020 vintage.
