This has been the 2018 Harvest in A Coroa Winery

“A high quality and very natural grape will mark the coming 2018 vintage in A Coroa”

In a year influenced by a late spring rainy stage, in which the optimization of the use of plant protection treatments has been fundamental to safeguard the proper yield of each plot, the epilogue has been more than satisfactory for A Coroa, with an excellent quality production of 90,000 kg of godello grape and 2,200 kg of grenache grape.

Once more the productive model based on the exhaustive monitoring of each plot, along with an experienced technical team and dedicated workers, have had much to do with the achievements of a campaign that are considered more than remarkable.

Despite of this, one cannot ignore the climatic peculiarities of a year that, as outlined above, has been characterized by very humid months of May and June, and in which the use of phytosanitary products has been key to safeguard the fruit of fungal diseases. Thus, and following at all times the non-negotiable guidelines of our winery, there has been a small decrease in production compared to a normal year, while guaranteeing a very natural grape.

In addition, the integrated production model of A Coroa, by which the use of phytosanitary treatments is limited in all our vineyards, guarantees a fruit without remnants of additives that will be a faithful reflection, one more year, of our wines.

2018 Harvest A Coroa

Combining the above-mentioned factors, the quantitative results of the 2018 harvest are estimated to be of 85,000 bottles of godello and 1,900 bottles of centenary grenache Ladeira Vella launched to the market.

Regarding the qualitative rating, the collected grape is of an exceptional quality with an excellent balance between alcohol and acidity. Recent data analyzes show the following results:

  • Godello intended to 100% Godello A Coroa and A Coroa Lias: 13.4% vol grade, with 5.7 gr/l of acidity.
  • Godello intended to “200 Cestos” of  Valdeaugas plot: 13.6 vol grade, with 6.0 gr/l of acidity.
  • Centenarian Grenache Ladeira Vella: 14.5 to 15 vol grade with 5.5 gr/l of acidity.

As differential features with respect the 2017 harvest, this new vintage has been characterized by a more relaxed ripening of the fruit as well as a more natural cycle, with an optimal and homogeneous mineral absorption. As a result, we expect very fresh and complex wines, with more nuances and showing, at this moment, spectacular citrus tones.
