Valdeorras<\/h3>\n

Valdeorras, the province of Ourense\u2019s easternmost region, is situated in Galicia, near the province of Le\u00f3n, in north-western Spain.<\/p>\n

The richness of the natural resources and the fertility of its soil has made this land an ideal place for people to settle over the ages.<\/p>\n

The culture of the grapevine in the region dates back to the arrival of the first Roman legions in Galicia, starting in 140 BC, when the first vineyards were planted and winepresses were sculpted in the rocks for the elaboration of the grape.<\/p>\n

Today, Valdeorras comprises nine borough councils and the quality of its wines has made it one of the sector\u2019s reference points. The region arouses both national and international interest, where its wines are the ultimate expression of its culture and people.<\/p>\n

Characteristics of Valdeorras<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The production areas for vine growing occupy a large part of the Sil, Xar\u00e9s and Bibei river basins. There, the climate is drier than in the rest of Galicia, mixing the Atlantic influence with features of the Continental one. The average temperature is around 11\u00baC and the rainfall rate ranges between 850 and 1,000 mm. yearly.<\/p>\n

The soils are varied: from slaty and shallow to granitic and richer in sand. Also those that seat on sediments and terraces, where pebbles abound.<\/p>\n

These soils with heterogeneous exposures, which are made up of slopes and terraces, have always been considered to have a clear viticultural vocation, as they provide less fertility and good drainage, which guarantees a moderate yield and an optimum ripening of the grapes.<\/p>\n
